After more than 30 years of traveling through northern Sweden, I am only now beginning to document what is routinely passed by. The environments change slowly, almost imperceptibly, as we move on. Erik Westerberg from the village of Robertsfors in Västerbotten had what he himself describes as a sudden impulse: ‘Why not build a submarine?’ A curiosity about engineering and his own capabilities set a multi-year project in motion. The dream of designing and building his own submarine proved full of challenges. With 10.5 tonnes of steel and an extraordinary level of dedication, Erik pushed the boundaries of what is possible for a hobby project. The film was produced together with Elisabeth Andersson, with financial support from Film i Västerbotten.
